Per usual, the competition season has flown by so far. The added amount of logistics to be dealt with in order to travel and compete during a global pandemic has only added to the whirlwind feeling of winter. I am very thankful for the amount of work being done behind the scenes by my teams staff, my Army Chain of Command, and each venue that has hosted us. If it wasn’t for their effort our competition season would not be possible at all. My original departure date for Europe had to be delayed due to COVID. With a big effort from myself and several others I was able to board a plane just in time to fly straight to my first competition. I joined my team for the World Cup weekend in Predazzo, ITA! After being solo in Utah for a little bit it was great to join the team for a three day weekend including a team event! I didn’t have a performance I was happy with but it felt good to shake the travel out and compete again. After Predazzo I headed to Seefeld, AUT where my team is based out of this winter. It was fun to spend a day or two with the whole team in our ‘European home’ and enjoy a beautiful day of cross country skiing. After our quick reset in Seefeld I traveled up to Lahti, FIN for another weekend of World Cup competitions. In Lahti I had glimpses of the kind of performance I am capable of, but I didn’t do so in the actual competition. Check out some photos from my first few weeks in Europe! After Lahti I traveled back to Seefeld for another reset at home and a few days of training with the whole team. Part of my team and I then traveled to Oberstdorf, GER for a short training camp while Ben and Taylor stayed in Seefeld for the World Cup Competition that weekend. Although the weather didn’t cooperate the whole time we were in Oberstdorf it was really nice to be a short drive away from another awesome venue. Oberstdorf is also the location of World Championships this season, so it has been a place we try to get extra training at. We then headed home to Seefeld for another reset and few days prep before the next competitions. While in Seefeld we got the chance to get out and make some turns on our Alpine skis, a great mental reset and reminder of fun times in the US. I then found myself on my way back to Lahti, FIN for a weekend of Continental Cup competitions. Because of the strong performances my team has had on the Continental Cup circuit so far this season we were able to start 6 athletes in Lahti (rather than 4) a cool team achievement. Lahti seemingly decided to begin a cold weather cycle when we showed up, a bit of a shock but it was still nice to have it feel like true winter. I had performances that were closer to the level I am capable of, making for a fun weekend fighting for top results (two top 10s). The entire US team had a great weekend with multiple top results and strong performances both on the jump and cross country course. Photos below! I am also excited to announce that I have been named to the 2021 World Championship Team! The event is held in Oberstdorf, GER this year and will run from Feb 22nd – Mar 7th. I am now in the final phase of preparations locking in what I have been working on so I can show up in Oberstdorf ready to go! This will be my first Championship event representing WCAP and I am extremely honored to be doing so. Click here to read the full press release by USA Nordic.
