I am now back in my beautiful second in Europe, Planica, SLO. Every time that I come here the mountains and surrounding countryside’s beauty amazes me. Only now I am praying to the snow gods to give us some snow. As you may know Central Europe is struggling right now with an extreme lack of snow. Luckily Planica has been able to make enough snow to get both their 90m hill and the 125m hill in great shape! There is a 3km cross country loop at the base of the jumps, we also have two other venues in Villach, AUT and Tarvisio, ITA with about 3km of skiing only a 30min drive away. It isn’t much but it is as good as it gets right now and we are lucky to still be able to train.
Last week I was in Hoydalsmo, NOR with Michael, Ben, Adam, Martin (jump coach), and Tomas (wax tech) for a Continental Cup competition. Due to the cancelled World Cup competitions more teams then usual went to this competition including several World Cup athletes who themselves have been on the podium at the World Cup level. It was a 67 man field which is one of the largest I have ever competed in. It is a challenging hill in Hoydalsmo making for a tough weekend of competitions. I had some ok training jumps but was unable to make it happen in the competitions. On the first day I placed 39th and on the second day I placed 45th. I wasn’t pleased with my performance but I reviewed what I would have changed and then moved on from the weekend. If you want to check out results from the weekend click here.
I am very excited to be here in Slovenia as these jumps are some of my favorite, with the help of my jump coach Martin I am working on making the changes on the jump hill that will help me to perform at my best. Most of all I am having a blast jumping the K125 meter hill as it is an extremely fun hill and very fun to train on! We will be here until the middle of next week when we will be traveling to Chaux Neuve, FRA for a weekend of World Cup competitions! As always check back next week for more!
